How to decide whether your plants need Cal-Mag
The best Cal-Mag additive is the one that fits your water and existing nutrient programme. A separate supplement is not automatically needed in every reservoir. Check what your base nutrient already supplies before adding another source of calcium and magnesium.
- Check your water. Record source-water EC and, where available, its calcium, magnesium and alkalinity analysis. EC measures total dissolved salts; it does not identify individual nutrients.
- Check the growing medium. Confirm whether coco is already buffered. Preparing unbuffered coco and supplementing an established crop are different jobs.
- Check pH, roots and watering. Poor uptake can resemble a shortage. Correct the underlying conditions before repeatedly increasing the feed.
- Choose one compatible supplement. Read the current label, include it in the total feed strength and avoid stacking several Cal-Mag products.
