One-transplant block that carries a plant from rooted cutting to harvest.

The Hugo is one of Grodan’s largest growing blocks, at 150 mm square, with a 42/40 planting hole. It is built as a one-transplant system. A well-rooted plug goes straight into the Hugo, and the plant stays in it from vegetative growth through to harvest, with no slab needed. Grodan stone wool is naturally slightly alkaline, so soak at pH 5.5 to bring the block to approximately pH 6.2. For vegetative growth, Grodan recommends nutrient solution at EC 2.5 to 3.5 mS/cm, and a saturated Hugo should weigh at least 2,650 g. Fit two drippers in opposite corners. Give about 1% of block volume daily for the first one to three days. Then let the day-level water content fall from 80% or more to about 65%, aiming for a 10% overnight dry-back.
