CANNA AQUA feeding guide: Vega, Flores and your tank calculator

CANNA AQUA is a two-part mineral nutrient programme for recirculating hydroponic systems. Nutrient solution returns to a shared reservoir, so the water you mix, the readings you record and the way you top up all matter. Use Aqua Vega A+B for growth and the transition into flowering; change to Aqua Flores A+B when flowers begin to form.

This Hunter Hydro guide uses CANNA Australia’s general product directions: Vega at 2 mL/L of each part and Flores at 3 mL/L of each part. The calculator keeps A and B separate and creates a personalised fresh-batch chart. It does not estimate pH-adjuster doses or promise an EC from volume alone.

Choose the correct range and system

AQUA is intended for recirculation with suitable inert media and equipment. It is distinct from CANNA Classic for run-to-waste use and CANNA COCO for coco. Match the formula to the system rather than exchanging bottle names in another range’s feeding chart. Keep Vega A paired with Vega B, and Flores A with Flores B.

*CANNA describes these as solution-plus-source-water EC ranges. Your source water, optional additives and crop demand affect the measured result. Do not add the source-water EC to these stated totals a second time. The standard conductivity unit used here is mS/cm.

Label directions and grow schedule are different options. CANNA’s detailed Australian AQUA grow schedule V25.01 (PDF) uses changing stage doses and optional additives. It assumes water adjusted to EC 0.2 mS/cm. Its base doses are not the constant 2+2 and 3+3 mL/L product directions used here. Choose one programme; never add the two recipes together. This calculator is explicitly the general-label base-feed calculator.

The detailed schedule is an example for flowering or fruiting plants, starting from a one-week-old cutting or seedling. Species and phase length vary. Its lighting hours and calendar weeks are not universal instructions for every crop. For propagation or sensitive crops, establish an appropriate crop-specific strength rather than assuming a full general dose suits them.

Mixing instructions: water, A, B, then measurement

  1. Clean the tank and measuring tools. Measure the litres of fresh water actually being mixed, not the tank’s maximum capacity. Record the starting water EC and shake each nutrient bottle.
  2. If using optional silica, check that exact product’s compatibility, dilution order and waiting instructions first. No silica rate is specified by this AQUA base recipe. The calculator leaves it off and requires your verified label rate if selected.
  3. Add the chosen Aqua Vega A or Aqua Flores A to the water. Circulate or stir thoroughly.
  4. Add an equal volume of the matching B. Mix thoroughly again. Never combine A and B concentrates together in a measuring cup.
  5. Add any chosen compatible supplements separately according to their own directions. The base calculator does not include Rhizotonic, Cannazym, Boost, PK13/14 or Calmag.
  6. CANNA directs leaving the mixed solution for several hours. Check the final EC before use. Dilute with suitable water if necessary; make small equal A/B adjustments only when justified by the crop and readings.
  7. Set the initial pH within 5.2–6.2 after mixing. Use the pH product’s directions, mix and remeasure between small adjustments. No fixed acid dose can be inferred from litres alone.

CANNA describes AQUA as pH-stabilised after initial adjustment. Continue monitoring: that does not mean a contaminated tank, unsuitable water or root problem should be ignored. Avoid repeatedly chasing tiny changes with acid and alkali. Store bottles closed, away from frost and direct light, and follow handling precautions.

Your personalised fresh-batch chart

Enter litres to calculate both stages. Use only the stage you need for a particular batch; do not mix both formulas together.

Only include silica when its product label and compatibility support your intended use. It is outside the CANNA base-feed programme.

Formula: litres × mL/L = millilitres of each individual part. Display rounded to 0.01 mL. Measure finished EC and pH. Fresh batches only; not a top-up recipe. Hunter Hydro · CANNA AQUA general-label programme.

Managing a recirculating reservoir

Keep the reservoir covered, limit light entering the solution, and maintain circulation and root-zone oxygenation appropriate to your equipment. Check water level, temperature, pumps, returns and roots daily. Log pH and EC with the time and any additions so that a trend can be distinguished from a single unusual reading.

Before a top-up, record the remaining level and EC. Restore the working water level cautiously with appropriate water, circulate and retest. A rising EC as the level falls often indicates proportionally greater water removal; a falling EC can indicate nutrient uptake. These observations do not reveal every element remaining in solution. Do not automatically pour another full reservoir dose into retained feed.

CANNA says to renew nutrition regularly but its general product directions do not specify one fixed replacement interval for all tanks. Choose a maintenance interval suited to crop load, water quality and system size. Replace and clean promptly if contamination, odour, sediment or root-health problems occur. Top-ups cannot indefinitely restore the original nutrient balance.

Calibrate pH and EC meters with the correct fresh standards. Rinse probes between samples and follow the meter’s storage instructions. If a reading changes sharply, verify the meter, water level, mixing, temperature and roots before applying a large correction. Extra nutrient is not a repair for a failed pump.

Frequently asked questions

Does 2 mL/L mean A and B combined?

No. A 50 L Vega batch uses 100 mL A and 100 mL B. A 50 L Flores batch uses 150 mL A and 150 mL B. Each part is added separately to water.

When do I change from Vega to Flores?

CANNA continues Vega through growth and the early flowering transition, then switches at flower formation. Its example refers to the first one to three weeks after a 12-hour flowering light cycle begins; the actual stage depends on the plant. Leaf crops should not be forced into a flowering calendar.

Why does the downloadable manufacturer schedule show other amounts?

It is a staged programme with additives and its own water assumptions. This guide’s calculator follows the general product directions. The linked official PDF lets you inspect the alternative without confusing its doses with the base recipe.

Is silica essential?

No. It is optional and off by default. Selecting it requires a verified label rate; the calculator performs multiplication only and does not establish compatibility or recommend a silica dose.

Can I add Calmag or a PK supplement automatically?

No. Assess source water and follow the chosen manufacturer programme. Supplements change EC and nutrient balance. Do not stack all available products simply because they are sold alongside the base feed.

Can I calculate pH down in advance?

No. Water alkalinity and the adjuster’s concentration matter. Measure the fully mixed solution and make small label-directed corrections.

How do I print my own tank chart?

Set the name, litres and optional silica. Download a self-contained HTML chart, or choose Print / save PDF. The print view contains your personalised doses and essential mixing notes, without the article or controls.
