CANNA Classic feeding guide: Vega, Flores and your tank calculator

Use the right two-part feed for an inert, run-to-waste growing system. This guide separates every A and B dose and turns CANNA’s Australian schedule into millilitres for your actual water volume.

Is Classic the right range?

CANNA Classic is designed for inert substrates such as rockwool in run-to-waste systems. CANNA recommends AQUA for recirculating systems. Classic is a different programme from CANNA COCO; do not transfer COCO rates into this chart. Vega supports vegetative growth; Flores is the flowering formula. Use matching A and B bottles.

Hunter Hydro lists Classic Vega A+B 5L and Classic Flores A+B 5L, plus 1L and 20L sets. Availability can change.

Feed chart: know which instructions you are using

This chart transcribes the Australian CANNA Classic schedule V26.02, converting mL/10L to mL/L. Its example starts with water EC 0.6 mS/cm and a one-week-old cutting or seedling. The timing varies by species. The 18/12-hour lighting pattern on the original is crop-specific, not a lighting instruction for every plant.

CANNA’s general product directions state 4 mL/L of A plus 4 mL/L of B. The stage schedule below uses different rates. This calculator follows V26.02, not the general 4+4 rate. Never add both recommendations together. Measure actual EC; neither a calculated dose nor a chart predicts your water chemistry.

All additive columns are mL/L. EC in mS/cm. *Total EC is CANNA’s example with source water 0.6, not a mandatory target. W6 total is printed as 2.9 although rounded 0.6 + 2.2 is 2.8; retain the source figure and use a meter rather than silently correcting it.

For a longer vegetative period, repeat D6-25; for longer flowering, repeat W3-5. Place PK13/14 3-4 weeks before harvest; W6 is this example, not a fixed week for every crop. W8-9 Cannazym can be 2.5-5 mL/L; the calculator uses 2.5 unless reused substrate is selected. Boost starts at 2 mL/L and can rise to 4 mL/L through flowering under manufacturer guidance.

Mix in the right order

  1. Start with a clean tank. Measure the water actually used, record its EC and shake the bottles.
  2. Silica is optional and is off by default. If selected, follow that exact product’s label for compatibility, dilution order and any waiting time. No silica product or dose forms part of CANNA’s Classic chart.
  3. Add the chosen Vega or Flores A into the water and stir thoroughly.
  4. Add the same quantity of its matching B and stir again. Never bring A and B concentrates into direct contact.
  5. Add selected compatible additives separately, mixing between each. Do not stack a second base nutrient programme.
  6. CANNA directs allowing the mixed base solution to stand for some hours. Check EC after mixing; dilute an excessive concentration, or adjust equal A/B amounts carefully when needed.
  7. Measure and adjust pH last to CANNA’s recommended 5.2-6.2. Recheck before irrigation. Never mix concentrated pH adjusters with nutrient concentrates.

Use clean measuring tools and rinse between bottles. Store nutrients closed, protected from light and frost, and follow label handling precautions.

Personalised litre-based tank chart

This is for a fresh batch. Select the optional additives you actually use. Base A and B stay separate. All quantities update together.

No silica dose is prefilled or recommended here. Leave it off if compatibility or label directions are unresolved.

Amounts = litres × mL/L. Separate A and B totals; do not halve either. Display rounded to 0.01 mL. These figures are not reservoir top-up prescriptions. CANNA V26.02 example; pH 5.2-6.2. Optional silica is user-entered and outside that programme.

Reservoir management

Keep the feed tank covered and clean, and check the pump, emitters and root zone regularly. Record water level, pH, EC and plant response before feeding and after any change. These are Hunter Hydro operating checks, not extra manufacturer dosing rules.

Do not pour the full fresh-batch recipe into a partly depleted tank. Evaporation and plant uptake change concentration. Measure remaining solution, top up cautiously with suitable water, mix and retest before deciding whether additional nutrient is needed. EC shows overall conductivity, not the balance of individual elements.

Classic is intended for run-to-waste use. Keep drainage out of the feed tank. Set irrigation for the crop and medium instead of treating the example schedule as a universal watering timer. Replace questionable or contaminated solution and clean equipment; a stronger feed is not a remedy for blocked irrigation or unhealthy roots.

Frequently asked questions

Does 3.2 mL/L mean A and B combined?

No. At that rate a 50L batch uses 160mL A and 160mL B, each diluted separately into water.

Why does Vega continue into flowering weeks 1 and 2?

That is the transition shown in V26.02. Flores begins at W3 in this example; do not automatically switch formulas on the first calendar day of flowering.

Should I chase the printed EC?

Check source-water quality, crop requirements and actual readings. The printed totals assume 0.6 starting EC. Removing additives or adding silica changes the solution, so the original totals no longer describe your selected mix.

Is the final week plain water?

The chart shows no base A/B in W9 but still lists Cannazym and Boost. The calculator reflects those entries when additives are included; it does not label that week plain water.

Do I need silica?

No silica appears in this CANNA schedule. It is optional here; the guide does not assign an unverified product dose.

Can I use this for seedlings or a recirculating tank?

The source begins with a one-week-old cutting or seedling, not a seed-germination recipe. For recirculation, CANNA directs growers to AQUA. Confirm the programme for your crop before using full rates.
